Love = Sacrifice?

I was listening to the priest's sermon this morning about Love. I first heard this during our high school retreat... Fr. Raphael Babano said that the ultimate meaning of love is, SACRIFICE. This was again reinforced by the priest in today's sermon.

Isn't it typical for a couple going through courtship to get to know each other better? That's why they go on dates a lot, talk from morning till night and maybe even after midnight. By getting to know the person better, we give a part of ourselves to the other person. In the same way we get to know people we care about.

When we love, we serve the people we love. For a man courting a woman, he does everything to show her how much he loves her. He carries her bags, fetch her from work/school, some even do intensive labor just to prove how much he loves her. As women in a marriage, they cook for their spouses, clean the house and take care of the kids. We serve because we care and we love them without expecting anything in return.

So... loving doesn't only mean walking on air all the time. we must always understand that Love entails, service and most of all Sacrifice.

Rest in Peace to the King of Comedy (July 25, 1928 – July 10, 2012)

The Final Curtin Call finally closed for the Comedy King on July 10, 2012 at 8:34pm. Cause of Death was COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). For those who are not familiar with COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary (PULL-mun-ary) disease, is a progressive disease that makes it hard to breathe. "Progressive" means the disease gets worse over time. COPD can cause coughing that produces large amounts of mucus (a slimy substance), wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and other symptoms. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of COPD. Most people who have COPD smoke or used to smoke. Long-term exposure to other lung irritants—such as air pollution, chemical fumes, or dust—also may contribute to COPD. - http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/copd/

Admit it or not, in one way or another, the Comedy King, Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr. or who we fondly know  as Dolphy, has touched our lives. It is inevitable that you have not watched at least one episode of either John en Marsha, Home Along da Riles or Home Along da Airport, or any of the numerous films he has made alongside famous actors. What has probably dawned on me was how he was able to stay grounded through his years of fame. He is the perfect example of a person who never forgot his roots, of where he came from, a boy growing up in Tondo, he sold peanuts and watermelon seeds infornt of theaters to make a living. He was a versatile person, as he was not only an actor, he was a dancer, a radio talent and a stage actor.

During the necrological service at the Dolphy Theatre, ABS-CBN Compound, his long time partner Zsa Zsa Padilla  couldn't help but cry at the thought of physically losing the love of her life. It was Dolphy who said, that no matter what happens to him in the future you will never miss him. All you have to do is hit play and reminisce his journey on stage on screen or on the television.

Here are some quotes from the King of Comedy himself:

"Pag di na natin kasama ang mga mahal natin, di bale na’t may naiwan naman tayong maganda at makakapangaral na bagay sa mundong to.”
“Pindutin nyo lang ang play at siguradong magkakasama tayo ulit.”
“[I have] No regrets. Mamatay man ako at mabuhay muli, mag-aartista pa rin ako.”

For many of the actors and actresses, he was more than just an actor, he was a mentor, a father, and a friend.

Rest In Peace Dolphy. Your legacy will forever be remembered.

Customer Service Rep KIlls Bills for $60

A news report came out recently about this call center agent aka. Daniella who apparently offered to wipe off a customer's bill over $60 to buy shoes. She has not only brought shame upon herself but has put the entire filipino race down. She has made it even harder for the other call center representatives to handle customer enquiries with this kind of customer service. Companies outsource to the Philippines not only because of the cost they can cut down, but because of the innate hospitality that Filipinos have. If call center agents continue to act this way, they will eventually look for other countries who will not give them the same service. Though this has not happened in my center, this is something we need to be very careful of. I've been in the Call Center Industry for almost 8 years and it has never crossed my mind to do such thing.

For all call center personnel out there, here's a thought:

Being employed under a multi-national company, you're not only carrying your name, or the company you're working for, you're carrying with you the entire Filipino Race, so think twice about doing something stupid.

Top 10 TV Series

Nothing to do tonight. I'm tired and sleepy but I just want to amuse you with an article, so here goes. Here are my top 10 TV Series:

10. Glee - a musical that has captured everyone's attention. Patterned after the movie high school musical, this shows High School students who joined the glee club, and their everyday struggle to survive high school life and facing the consequences of being stereotyped as weird and losers.

9. Hannah Montana - corny as it may seem I'm a child at heart. I used to spend my saturday afternoons watching reruns of Hannah Montana on Disney Channel. An ordinary girl who lives an extraordinary life living 2 lives. She lives with her father (Billy Ray Cyrus) and brother Jackson ( Jason Earles) at their beach side house. Miley doubles as Hannah Montana in her Showbiz world.

8. Suite Life on Deck - Twins Zack  and Cody played by Dylan and Cole Sprouse, embark on a crazy adventure onboard the Tipton Cruise Ship along with their friends. They carry with them mischief which these twins were known for.

7. Wizards of Waverley Place - did I not tell you guys I'm a Disney Channel fan? I like waking up to Disney  Shows, feel good series that brightens up my day and takes all the worries away. :) This series shows how a family of Wizards adapt to the normal world especially for the teenage kids of this wizard family.

6. Barefoot Contessa - Ina Garten of the Lifestyle Channel shows us how to create simple meals with great effect on people, using organic and simple to find ingredients. I'm a fan of cooking shows and Ina Garten makes you feel that you are able to achieve anything.

5. Mythbusters - Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage both make a great team at proving myths. I learn a lot and as a matter of fact I'm sort of a History and Science freak. Together with their friends, Grant Imahara, Kari Byron, Tory Belleci and Buster, they test out myths to prove if it indeed is plausible, busted or confirmed.

4. CSI Nevada - Interesting facts about Crime Scene Investigation or Forensics. If I'm not mistaken The first CSI series started when I was in 3rd year high school. What interests me more is how they are able to solve crimes by using modern scientific methods.

3. The Amazing Dr. Pol - a National Geographic Series that focuses on the life of Dr. Pol, a veterinarian in the rural community of Wiedman, MI. He specializes in Large Farm Animals, and uses old-school techniques.   He runs his veterinary clinic alongside his wife Diane, Dr. Brenda and his son Charles, who occasionally visits them.

2. River Monsters - Starring Jeremy Wade, whose challenge is to find the biggest Monsters that lurk in the shallow waters of a lake or a river. It's interesting to know that there are a lot of things we didn't know existed  in our rivers.

1. Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan - I love dogs and in one way or another, I would like to train my dogs how to behave properly. I tried out different methods or techniques that Cesar advised his clients, and it actually works. I can't let any chance I have pass by without watching the Dog Whisperer.

I hope you guys enjoyed reading about my favorite Top 10 TV Series.  Oh, and by the way, the ultimate TV Series but is not yet out on AXN, Season 7 of Supernatural is on it's way to our Television Screens... I just love Dean and Sam!!!

My obsession with Flowers....

Recent Events....

It's been quite a long time since I have written here. I've been so caught up with work lately being in class and all that. Though I really missed writing my blogs. Weekends have been pretty hectic for me too. About 2 weeks ago, I was with my family. We went to the beach to celebrate those who had birthdays for the month of February. The beach that we visited was one that we used to visit when we were kids. It brought back a lot of memories. Last sunday we were at my aunt's Summer house at Don Salvador Benedicto to celebrate my cousin and uncle's birthday. Food is somehow what brings us together. As we grow older, the lesser and lesser timewe spend seeing each other and catching up on old times.

Lately I have joined an online photo contest where an image is matched against a similar image (which they call image duel) Of all the participants I won Best 10% for that particular week. In order for me to hone my craft, I will be attending a photography workshop tomorrow. For those interested in photography, there's nothing really wrong with getting a little or more help depending on your experience. I'll update you guys when I get home tomorrow, but for now... Ciao!

Hoshi Resto Bar

Lunch at Hoshi Resto Bar! This small but homey restaurant is located at the heart of Bacolod City. Some locals does not even know this place exists. Hoshi boasts of a wide array of Japanese dishes to choose from. Obviously, my favorite is California maki and Ebi Fry Tempura.

Call Hoshi now at: (034)441-3101, they're located Door No. 7, Yusay Bldg. Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City.

Digital Photo Manipulation

I have been using photoshop for a long time now but I haven't quite discovered or used it to its maximum capacity. I'm discovering a lot of ways to make my pictures pop out even more which is why I'm going to show you my dear readers some samples of my photo manipulations. Here goes.... scroll down....

Photo Exploration Day Part 1

It's nice waking up to a day where you don't have to rush to go to work, think about the challenges you will encounter at work. It's been a while since I've had time for myself. It makes me appreciate my surroundings more. Things I usually ignore when I'm too busy and too preoccupied during weekdays. I didn't even notice beautiful flowers growing in my own backyard, or simply enjoying my coffee while it's hot. I love eating at the dining table and not on my office table. The warmth of the morning sun instead of the cold office aircon. Most of all, I have time to do what I love best... Take time to get pictures and discovering more about photography and digital manipulation.

Ghost Rider 2012

Just got home after a movie date with my cousin Sammy. The movie was Ghost Rider 2 Spirit of Vengeance. Story goes as " Johnny Blaze, still struggling with the curse of being the Ghost Rider, is hiding out in a remote part of Eastern Europe when a secret sect of the church asks him to save a boy from the devil. At first Johnny is reluctant to use his power, but it's the only way to save the boy and possibly rid himself of this curse forever." - Wikipedia

Over all from a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being the highest I'd rate it as a 6 or 7. I felt like it was a cheaper version of the Original one from 2007. A few observations I've had was that Johnny's bike, should have been a chopper and not some old motorcycle which is similar to that of the ones used for Escape from LA. The plot was good though it deviated so much from the original Ghost Rider story.

Well, until my next blog! :)
